Sustainable Communities Summit - Conference and exhibition
John Prescott, the former Deputy Prime Minister, had long championed regeneration and the planning and development of sustainable communities.
In his own words: “to create communities where people want to live, not leave.”
We were appointed official organisers of the Delivering Sustainable Communities Summit which took place across the two venue campus of Manchester Central and the adjacent Bridgewater Hall – all tightly secured for this three day, high profile event.
The conference and 7,000 square metre exhibition was hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister and attracted the majority of the cabinet, including the Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Home Secretary, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Secretary of State for Education and Skills and the Secretary of State for Transport. The Blackberry event management team planned and organised this prestigious affair.
In addition, a host of international luminaries spoke in plenary including the Mayor of Chicago, Bill Bryson, and Professor Sir Peter Hall. A full programme of 36 sub-plenaries, workshops, and master classes supported the plenary sessions at the Bridgewater Hall and delegates were given the opportunity to visit eight world class regeneration sites around the City of Manchester. A series of fringe events was also organised.
Working with the ODPM Summit team, we managed over 1,750 fully paid delegates, 250 concessionary delegates, up to 1,000 day visitors to the exhibition, 500 exhibitors, 150 national and international broadcasters and journalists and 50 high level and VIPs. This necessitated high levels of security at the event and we had to manage security clearance for every delegate and member of staff before the event.
“Your preparation for, and management of, the event allowed the team to concentrate on the networking opportunity and content of the presentations. Everybody felt it was a great success.”
